Alabama Rot
Alabama Rot, while a very deadly and frightening condition, is not as common as you may think. In five years there have been only 200 cases in the UK. However, it does pay to be vigilant, especially as it is this time of year that it seems to be most prevalent, and there are certain things you can look out for. Alabama rot generally affects the lower limbs, pads, abdomen and muzzle. Lesions are often about the size of a 5 pence piece and look like ulcers. The most important factor is that they do not heal like usual cuts and scrapes. Try to avoid boggy conditions and check your dog for lesions every evening.
Also make sure to get any lesions checked out by a vet as a blood test is the only way to diagnose the condition.
